OUR INSPIRATION

Ubuntu means "I am, because WE are" -this African proverb speaks to the fact that we cannot exist in isolation, and it is with that in mind that we have designed our vision:

OUR TEAM

UBUNTU FOUNDER, CEO & Creative Director

​​Past and current work experience include working as senior health coach within the NHS, Community Resource Worker within Learning Disabilities, former soldier within the British Army, mental health training and facilitation.

He often works as a mentor, facilitator, practitioner, a Cultural & Diversity Consultant, an actor for TV roles and as Simulated Patient and Communications Facilitator at Medical Schools within Devon.

Nev has a diverse portfolio of work including theatre acting, screenwriting, dramaturge, film acting, spoken word. He has performed in schools, libraries, natural outdoor spaces, museums, community spaces. 

 

He enjoys improvisation, devising plays within the community, education and working within corporate roleplay.

Nev is the father to 2 girls who enjoy his cooking, Taxi Dad services, advice and guidance.

UBUNTU Marketing Director & Editor

Hayley is originally from the St Vincent and the Grenadines community in High Wycombe, where she completed BA Hons Creative Writing, at Buckinghamshire New University. She has had many years of working in childcare across all ages, Hayley also has a history of having tutored GCSE English, worked in B2B sales, volunteer work, project and event management, playwright, school consultancy, sensitivity advisor for racial and SEN related content and has trained in Understanding Autism.

 

Hayley has also become the technical designer and DSM for UBUNTU performances.

Hayley can often be seen whizzing around in her pink wheelchair-scooter. A busy Mum, Hayley's days are otherwise filled with writing, advocating SEN needs in the area, community engagement, family adventures, reading, gaming and lots of baking.

UBUNTU Advisor, Strategist, Social Media Co-ordinator 

Jon’s a highly experienced professional who has proven ability to design, and lead innovative creative learning for a variety of social contexts and education in the sectors of cultural heritage, social enterprise and higher education. 

He’s been exploring social enterprise, visual culture, creative learning and socially engaged practice since co-establishing Fotonow CIC as
a Creative Director in early 2009. He encourages collaboration through visual culture, anti racism and social engagement. 

Jon also has extensive experience of co-designing learning in youth centres, primary and secondary schools, galleries, museums,
festivals and many other non institutional learning spaces for children and young people.

Currently Jon’s also a Director at Plymouth Social Enterprise Network and Jabulani CIC, a committee member for Mixed Families Together, a member of the Steering Group for the ‘Hidden Figures of Plymouth’ project, and collaborates with Diversity Business Incubator CIC.

Co-founding Director, Education and Mentoring Lead

Dave is originally from Bristol but moved to Devon 37 years ago for his first graduate job as an Analytical Chemist. Dave also has a history of being a self-employed coach, mentor, and educator. Dave has over 30 years of experience with working people in various settings. ​

Dave has been working in the field of Diversity and Inclusion for about 15 years. Initially as a Cultural Champion then as a facilitator for organisations and an EDI consultant.

During his working lifetime Dave has volunteered for and sat on many committees, sports teams, and  advisory groups from the arts to differing industries.

Dave enjoys cinema, playwriting, theatre, photography, attending a community allotment, coaching sport, playing volleyball, tennis, boarding guide dogs, and cooks some amazing worldly cuisines.
