Our Alliance
INSIGHT Alliance SW is an independent body led by local people of colour based in Torbay and the surrounding area. Formed to identify and tackle inequalities as outlined in the Equality Act 2010 the Alliance was born on the principle of equity within equality.

As individuals with a shared experiential lens, we place a specific emphasis on advocacy, equity and inclusion for Black and racially minoritised communities and the nuance of differentiation within the intersectionality of the Protected Characteristics.

Our initial collaboration stemmed from a number of re-occurring themes observed as contributors working in Torbay and across the South-West. On noting the lack of representation or grassroots voices within the established networks we queried the underlying factors and influences which kept the dial from moving structurally and systemically.

On taking a deeper dive, we connected with agencies across the public and community sphere for answers and found too many variables, competing priorities and a lack of a cohesive approach for any sustainable clarity in outcome. However, as a consequence of these conversations we organically grew into an informal pathway for local and regional voices which propelled us to form an alliance with purpose.

Our Vision
Our aim is to work independently as a proactive investigator to help narrow the gap on Black and racially minoritised inequalities across all sectors, providing evidence-based recommendations and promoting equity by building an enduring network of passionate and influential people who share our commitment to equality.

Addressing Inequality, Inequity, and Structural Discrimination
We work not only to identify inequalities and inequities but to actively support solutions that reduce them. By tackling unconscious bias and structural discrimination, we aim to improve the broader determinants of health and education and create a more equitable environment for all.
