UBUNTU is a team made of talented individuals, with so much to offer. We put together a selection of available workshops that showcase the experience, gifts and capacity of our team. This selection of workshops is so varied that it has something for everyone and of all ages.
WORKSHOPS

This is a mobile workshop that
can be adapted and taken to
various locations, designed to
transform and transport,
guests will walk away with
smiles, knowledge, empathy
and knowing the difference
between plantain and bananas!
With various activities designed to
engage with the littlest of visitors, we can
tenderly teach about this tumultuous time in a
museum, school hall, library or
community centre, any location
is possible!

Bursting full of sensory and art
activities, as well as calm and unique storytelling, we also
create a pop up exhibit to showcase what a 'Front Room'
might have looked like during that time, as well as all this,
we pride ourselves on being able to
engage with difficult questions
and finding answers together.
1) Windrush Journey Workshop
The Windrush journey workshop is a reinterpretation of
the journey those of the Windrush generation would
have typically embarked upon during the Windrush
Migration period of 1948-1970.

The Windrush generation refers to the people
from the Caribbean who were invited by the
British Government to move to Great Britain.
This included thousands of people from across
the whole Caribbean who travelled to Post-WWII
Britain to “Help rebuild the Motherland!”
Embark on your own Windrush journey today as you:
• Explore elements of the various Caribbean islands
• Learn about what it was like aboard the first ship of
travellers, the HMT Empire Windrush
• Discover the ups and downs of British life for the
Windrush pioneers
• Enjoy some relaxing storytelling.
• Learn of the ongoing legacy of achievements and contributions
to modern British culture and society
• Get crafting and have fun!

2) Albert Mouse Nurture Kindness Clubs
‘Nurturing Creativity and Innovation’
Albert Mouse Kindness Clubs were created as a
response to teachers and other professionals
suggesting there was a need to get back to basics.
‘Children just do not seem to be kind to each other
anymore’. Also – ‘I am not sure children think it is
cool to be kind’.

Albert Mouse Nurture Kindness Clubs are available
to primary school settings. The Nurture Kindness Clubs
work with small groups of 8 children. The children are
met each week by Albert Mouse Esquire, who is a small
mouse who shares kindness wherever he goes. Albert is
featured in books by James Hywel.

3) Farewell Jamaica Excerpts and Chat Workshop
This is a shortened version of our play, Farewell Jamaica, where the
performance is more of a monologue and narrative
which retains its interactive, playfulness at its core.

After the short performance, there is an
opportunity for a Q&A where the character
will answer an array of questions, to the
best of their ability. We have often found,
in the past that people are very curious
about the impact that this time had on the
Windrush Generation, why they didn't
feel more angry or wronged.
We always speak from the heart and
from our memories of our ancestors
and their friends, that the lesson behind
the Windrush Journey story is one of pride
in contributions made to the Modern Britain, perseverance and
resilience, as well as appreciation and respect for those who
faced and overcame hardships. Hope and love always win over hate.

4) Bridging Cultures Workshop
"Bridging Cultures" workshop is crucial for supporting the unique
challenges and opportunities faced by students of mixed
heritage or different cultures. It aids in identity development,
helping these students explore and embrace their diverse
backgrounds, fostering a positive self-image and pride in
their unique heritage.
The session promotes cultural understanding and respect by
encouraging empathy and awareness among all students,
including White British students, reducing stereotypes, and
creating an inclusive school environment.
Through group activities, it builds community
and peer support, making students of mixed
heritage feel understood and valued, while also
allowing White British students to connect with and learn
from their peers' diverse cultural backgrounds. Additionally,
it enriches the educational experience for all by broadening
perspectives and enhancing engagement through
interactive learning.
By preparing students to navigate cultural
diversity and fostering leadership and
advocacy, the "Bridging Cultures " workshop
equips all students with essential skills for their future
personal life, contributing to a more inclusive, empathetic, and
culturally aware school community.

-
Developmental Stage: Students in this age range are developing a stronger sense of identity and are more capable of understanding complex social issues, including cultural identity and diversity.
-
Social Awareness: This age group is becoming more socially aware and empathetic. They are starting to form their own opinions about society and their role within it.
-
Peer Influence: Peer relationships become increasingly important, and promoting understanding and respect for diversity can help foster inclusive peer interactions.
-
Preparation for Adulthood: These students are preparing for the transition to adulthood and equipping them with the knowledge and skills to navigate a diverse world is essential.

To facilitate understanding and appreciation of maintaining and honouring multiple cultural identities among students aged 11 to 16 through personal stories and interactive discussions.

5) Tiny Travels: Interactive Cultural Learning & Standing Up To Racism Workshops

At Tiny Travels Cultural Education, we offer children in
Devon the opportunity to explore diverse cultures in an
engaging and educational way. Our aim is for all
children to grow up to respect and embrace people
from all cultural backgrounds. We do this through
interactive cultural educational sessions in nurseries,
schools, libraries, family and community events.
Interactive Cultural Learning Experiences
Our interactive sessions take children on a journey
through the rich diversity of world regions, with a
focus on Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Our flagship
program, the Amazing African Continent Experience,
challenges common media stereotypes and broadens children’s
views of the world. The experience is impactful,
engaging and the children have fun during the interactive session. During this immersive part of the experience,
children can participate in a fun, hands-on
educational experience exploring crafts from
different African cultures, discovering sensory
pots with unique spices, herbs, and teas,
role-playing with custom-made food items, and
hearing different languages through musical
buttons and have fun playing with our our
collection of African instruments.
We use thoughtful discussions and storytelling
from diverse books to help guide children to
develop more inclusive mindsets, particularly
important in rural areas.
Standing Up to Racism Workshops
These workshops empower children to become up-standers in their communities, drawing inspiration from the words of Dr. Martin Luther
King: “In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” Through role-play scenarios, we
give children the tools and confidence to speak up
against racism—whether in the classroom,
playground, football club and wider community.
We specialise in helping children recognise
and address the more subtle forms of racism,
working towards a future where all children
feel included and valued.
Join Tiny Travels on a
journey towards
helping to build a
safer, fairer, and more
inclusive society for all.
